Volunteering with CHSLC results in building relationships with the clients. You begin to know them, enjoy talking with them, and wanting to make sure that they have all the care and support they need to be safe and healthy. I want to keep checking in with them, listen to their memories or updates, or just know that they are doing okay. Sometimes, you are the only person they will see that day.
You can spend as little or as much time as you like volunteering with CHSLC. If you have only an afternoon or a morning a week, you can still contribute to their important work. While you may start out thinking that you will be helping others by volunteering, in fact, visiting with clients takes you out of your own small world and into theirs, and you end up learning and growing and benefitting from the interactions just as much as they do.”
